Here’s the scent-control step almost everyone under-invests in, and it’s the cheapest one there is: the shower. A whitetail’s nose is keen enough to make a mockery of a day’s worth of body odor, and no amount of spray applied over that odor works as well as removing it at the source before you get dressed. A scent-free enzyme soap and a clean routine do more for a few dollars than a whole shelf of the fancy stuff.

How to build a scent-free shower routine

Does scent-free soap actually help you kill more deer?

It's the cheap, high-leverage foundation of a scent routine, not a guarantee.

Can I just use regular unscented soap?

Plain unscented soap is better than a perfumed one, but hunting-specific enzyme soaps are formulated to break down body odor rather than just avoid adding fragrance. Given how cheap they are, it's worth using the purpose-made version — and either way, skip scented deodorant and shampoo.

When should I shower before hunting?
