How to Hunt Thermals
Thermals move your scent up in the morning and down in the evening. Here is how to read that vertical current and set up so it never carries you to a deer.
Thermals are the wind you cannot feel on the flag
Most hunters set up on the prevailing wind — the breeze you feel on your face, the flag on your truck — and never account for the other current moving their scent: thermals. Thermals are the vertical movement of air driven by the ground heating and cooling through the day, and they are distinct from the horizontal wind. Warm air is less dense and rises; cool air is denser and sinks.
